Corneal Topography: A Must for Vision Correction Assessment

The cornea is a clear curved part at the front of the eye – it is responsible for more than 80% of the focussing power of the human eye, “bending” light to bring images into focus onto the retina at the back of the eye.

Corneal Topography provides the Surgeon 3D maps of the cornea, with information about shape, curvature and power of the cornea. It allows the Doctor to assess for any irregularities – to diagnose, detect and monitor corneal related conditions.

Laser Vision Correction aims to reshape the cornea in order to change focussing power of the eyes and reduce dependency on visual hardware such as glasses and contact lenses. The higher your prescription the more reshaping needs to be done. Corneal Topography allows the surgeon to ensure that your corneas are healthy to undergo laser vision correction and that there is enough room for treatment.

At Hunter Street Eye Specialists, we believe in customising treatment to every individual each patient. Each patient receiving a full eye health exam and an array of tests (of which Corneal Topography is one) to assess suitability, ensure safety and improve accuracy.
