Laser Vision Correction: Eligibility Criteria
With the ability to correct most types of refractive errors, the first step is finding out if you are eligible or suitable for laser vision correction.
Laser Vision Correction can correct, Myopia (Short-Sightedness), Hyperopia (Long-Sightedness), Astigmatism or a combination of them
Eligibility for the procedure will depend on;
Amount of correction you require (Strength of your prescription)
Stability of your prescription
Your visual goals – What are your expectations
The architecture of your eye, in particular the thickness of the cornea
The health of your cornea
Your overall health
Essentially laser vision correction reshapes your cornea, the stronger your prescription the more “correction” and “reshaping” is required on the cornea, hence the more “space” or tissue you need to have.
Not everyone’s goal is to get to zero prescription – some, depending on their job or lifestyle will opt to remain, for example slightly short-sighted, hence expectation & goal will also influence suitability for laser vision correction. Others just want their prescription to be reduced rather than fully corrected, so their glasses are “thinner” or contact lenses are more within the average range.
The criteria for eligibility like the procedure we offer, is individual and tailored, discussing directly with your Refractive Consultant and Eye Surgeon will help you through the decision making process
