Cataract: To Treat or Not to Treat?
Once upon a time patients waited until their cataracts were “ripe” before they embarked or considered treatment because surgery posed more of a risk than the cataract itself.
Advances in instrumentation, lens technology and improved surgical techniques has resulted in reducing adverse risks and giving rise to more accurate post operative results. Patients are no longer waiting for cataracts to debilitate them and choose to have treatment earlier for lifestyle reasons.
As life expectancy increases Cataract surgery has allowed patients to remain active for longer, it is no longer performed purely for medical reasons, but in addition it can now offer patients the choice of reducing the need for reliance on visual hardware like glasses or contact lenses.
To treat or not to treat is no longer the question!
