Dawn Of Cataract Surgery

Untitled

Cataract surgery by phacoemulsification was pioneered by Charlie Kelman in the 1980’s .

Sir Harold Ridley’s invention of the intraocular lens in the 1950’s allowed patients to see again after the natural lens (cataract) had been removed.

It wasn’t until the 1990’s that foldable lens technology allowed us to perform small incision cataract surgery.
