PRK – Bringing Sexy Back
PRK or Photorefractive Keratectomy never really went away, but since the dawn of LASIK it did take a backseat. Rebranding, technology and improved techniques has breathed new life into PRK, dusting off problems of past. Back when PRK first came to being, laser technology was in its infancy and results were often unpredictable due to archaic lasers – not the procedure itself. Corneal haze and scarring, a common side effect of past, has been reduced remarkably due to a better appreciation of wound healing and improved surgical and post operative techniques. Anyone suitable for LASIK is suitable for PRK – The only hurdle? Recovery is a week as opposed to a day, but patients who can look past the slightly longer initial recovery period, can and do enjoy the benefits of results as good as LASIK.
